Day 3! I know it’s late, and I’ll explain why. :C
For over four hours I was trying to get my laptop fixed. I got notice of a trojan horse (named Flashback) that was hitting school computers. But, computers that were hit were also being cut off from using the internet so that it could be contained. Before it hit me for however reason it does it, I decided to run a system update. Supposedly Apple made an update that would guard against this thing.
But it was taking forever for it to get past that last percentage of the loading bar, and I had class in about twenty minutes. So, I was dumb and forced my laptop off.
When I tried to turn it back on, it wouldn’t get past the initial loading page, meaning I couldn’t even login to my account to see my desktop.
After doing a bunch of fancy things in regards to repairing permissions and such, nothing was working. I still couldn’t meet desktop! This had happened one other time, and the guy (D — he was quite lovely, I must say) told me that we would have to reinstall Lion. Although the system itself would run an archive-install (where it makes a copy of everything anyway!), there would also be a small chance of my harddrive being wiped if for whatever reason my harddrive is faulty. Because this is my baby, I bought with my hard-earned cash the summer before college, I wanted to take every precaution possible.
And dude, come on, I don’t want to lose my class notes. :C AND the pictures I’ve been drawing.
So he unscrewed the unibody, took out the harddrive, and we backed up only four folders: my school one, my RA one, my drawing one, and my writing one. It made me realize how much unnecessary things I have on my laptop and should seriously consider cleaning through.
A couple hours later, the archive-install had worked successfully! My laptop had never come in contact with the virus, but my computer was sluggish as ever. So I restarted it once, twice…
And now it works better than ever! C: But all that time at the lab, I couldn’t go to class, so I spent the rest of the day trying to catch up.
I DID draw a picture while I was waiting! But I left it there, because I scrawled a thank you note on it. So… I did draw. But I don’t have proof of it with me.
Hope this finds you well,
Me.
P.S. — if you want to make sure your Mac hasn’t been harmed, run a full system scan, use the free removal tool here, and then run a system update!
